Ship Repair and Conversion

Malin Marine has developed a wide range of expertise in providing both remote and on-site design and project management support to ship conversion and repair projects. We can assist with a wide range of tasks such as:

  • Design of local modifications such as davit platforms, boat landing access, deck extensions, superstructure alterations and additions, hatch cover strengthening and local underdeck stiffening.
  • Design of major structural modifications such as sponsons, tank conversions, lengthening projects, crane upgrades.
  • Turnkey packages relating to change of use design scopes, such as conversion of unmanned flat-top cargo barges to manned offshore cable laying platforms including electrical, marine systems, deck strength assessments, specification, sourcing and integration of new equipment all to class approval.

This service when taken in conjunction with our design and build service can allow clients to place their vessel in a shipyard while retaining flexibility to have smaller additional scopes contracted via MMC and supplied direct to yard for installation.

MMC can also provide high level front end designs prior to contract award for conversion works, permitting clients to have firm technical details included within their ITT issued to bidding yards allowing more confidence in quotations received prior to placing any final orders. This pro-forma design work we are often happy to do at greatly reduced rates if clients commit to using us for the detailed design work required later for class approval.
